Lee Marvin was a former Marine who served in World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was a tough guy alright.

I LIKE actors who served. McQueen, Marvin, etc. McQueen had more "coolness" like Eastwood. Marvin seemed like a tough SOB, not necessarily "cool" though. Same as Bronson. Tough MF'er but not "cool".

One of my favorite movies is "Cool Hand Luke", Newman was superb, despite his stupid politics. (Where the HELL did he get the liberalism from?)
