Who's cooler? Lee Marvin or Steve McQueen?

I say Lee Marvin hands down. He was just cool and never thought he had to prove it.

Always thought James Caan had some of the ‘cool’ factor going for him.

As a Triumph rider, I vote for McQueen.

Beat me to it. Used to have a ‘66 Trophy. I helped move the
bike museum in Anamosa Ia. this summer and handled a few
from his collection.

“Clint Eastwood”

I don’t think anybody really compares to Eastwood, for his long acting career, PLUS his long directing career.

Lotsa good stuff.

He’s in a category of his own. (

For awhile it looked like Mel Gobson intended to follow in Eastwood’s footsteps)

Steve “Cooled Down” the Blob! The stunt that he personally performed when he jumped the fence in “The Great Escape” was mega kool!

If I have the story straight, the movie company wouldn’t let
him. Bud Ekins did it.

Steve McQueen, he raced motorcycles on the weekends in between movie takes. Although Marvin has his cool side also, but Steve had him beat.

I believe that McQueen was in the Navy.

He worked near asbestos in the Navy and later died of mesothielioma.

Mud can make you prisoner and the plains can bake you dry
Snow can burn your eyes, but only people make you cry
Home is made for coming from, for dreams of going to
Which with any luck will never come true

McQueen is ok, but Marvin rules. And both are several levels higher than todays hollywooders.

Loved Marvin in Paint Your Wagon.

Couldn't stand him in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.

But I loved both movies.

His bio states he was in the Marines from 1947-50.

“While McQueen felt that asbestos used in movie soundstage insulation and race-drivers’ protective suits and helmets could have been involved, he believed his illness was a direct result of massive exposure while removing asbestos lagging from pipes aboard a troop ship during his time in the Marines.”

Since you asked. I think they are two totally different types.....like apples and oranges. Lee Marvin was a hard, tough, bust-you-in-the-mouth, take no crap off of anyone kind of guy. Steve McQueen, to me, was suave, smooth, cool and slick. Tough? Yes, but not in an in-your-face kind of way. MY memory of Steve is his role in THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN or THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. Two totally different roles, but both cool, smooth, suave and “in like Flynn” with the ladies. IMHO

Hmmmm for just plain cool I have to say Steve McQueen if nothing else but for his car in Bullitt......(Although I would argue classic Paul Newman is still the Coolest....I site Cool Hand Luke and The Sting).

IMO, the best Newman movie was Hombre, hands down.

Lol, I would pick Paul Newman over him but Steve was kinda cute when young.
