Starship Troopers (the movie) was a Saturday evening movie for adults. Blood. Gore. Monsters. Drama. Hot co-ed shower scenes. And Heinlein politics. Not a bad movie.
The book and the movie had there merits. I really enjoyed both.
Indeed. They list “I Married a Monster From Outer Space”, but not Silent Running???
Not to my knowledge.
Can’t believe it took 243 posts before anyone mentioned ‘Things to Come’.
Rachel was a protected replicant, and in the end Gaff didn't kill her as he should have. As far as Deckard, quite possible they kept him as the best blade runner precisely because he was a replicant and therefore able to catch the likes of Roy Batty.
Triffids scared the crap out of me as a kid.
What about Monolith Monsters?
IIRC, Mrs Heinlein tried to get her late husband's name off of the movie when she saw it. If you're looking for something even remotely similar to the book, you'll be terribly disappointed. They kept some of the names, but got a lot of stuff really wrong... For instance, Rico & Diz wind up in bed together... Don't worry though, it wasn't a "Brokeback Mountain" moment. In the movie, Diz is a hot babe. And you won't get to see the battle suits, because they're not there.
Put simply, if you loved the book, DON'T go into the movie expecting it to be similar to the book, otherwise you'll be disappointed and hate the movie. On the other hand, if you're looking for a mindless sci-fi "shoot-em-up" with a bit of eye candy, then it's a pretty darned fun movie to watch. It's a bad, but fun, sci-fi movie. Certainly worth the rental fee.

Specifically, the origami unicorn means Gaff knows Deckard’s dreams, which means Deckard is one of the modern memory-implanted replicants and Gaff knows his memories. They cut the unicorn dream out of the original release, severing that connection, which is the reason why the question of Deckard’s status lasted for years.
I always thought “Prince Of Darkness”(1987 John Carpenter) was a great film and a good marriage of SciFi and Horror.
I am surprised that Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick, Stargate, Predator, Serenity, The X-Files(first movie), Star Trek- Wrath of Khan, Resident Evil, and Godzilla 2000(I really enjoyed that movie) did not make it on the list.
Consider the source... MSN.

I saw that movie when I was really young, and it gave me nightmares for a very long time.
Another movie I saw about that time was a western with dinosaurs (and a tiny horse!) called "Valley of Gawangi."

Terry Gilliam is a terrific director, and did an awesome job on 12 Monkeys. He did get on the list with Brazil though.

Another movie I had completely forgotten about. Bruce Dern was really good in it. And I believe the producers of that movie sued George Lucas over the droids especially R2-D2.

‘***The Lathe of Heaven (1980)***
I remember seeing that movie on PBS years ago!’
I didn’t see the original, but I saw the 2002 remake with James Caan, to my misfortune.
"An Inconvenient Truth"
"An Inconvenient Truth"
Because the environmental whackos are still in charge in the future too!

Silent Running was good.
Independence Day should not be on the list.
And, while I know she is persona-non-grata on this site, Barbarella has to be in there somewhere.
The book was pretty good... The movie... Well, Cheryl Ladd was amazingly HOT! The scene with her wearing Kristofferson's shirt was second, only to her Charlie's Angels bikini shot!

Omega Man.
