It’s two Navy pukes, Admiral Mullen and Admiral Roughead, who are hell bent on putting women in submarines and lifting DADT.
As was pointed out to me in a conversation with one AF officer who was to the left of Obama, and I quote, “the military is one of the most socialistic organizations around so why wouldn’t I be attracted to it?”. In that he is quite correct so I’m not surprised that it has a fair number of leftists.
With the exception of SAC and other personnel involved in flying (pilots, aircraft mechanics, etc.) members of the Air Force make far fewer sacrifices than members of other branches of the service (particularly the Army and Marines).
Again, with the exception of flying personnel and a small portion of troops assigned to duty like medics in Afghanistan, Air Force personnel seldom put their lives on the line.
It is the most politically correct branch of the service. When I was stationed at Wright-Patt, if it was your outfit's turn to win the base parade, you won it even if everyone was out of step.
It was a 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM job with very little weekend work or overtime.
Just some random thoughts, but I am sure they will hack plenty of people off.
Thin air.
Hmmm...
I spent much of my Active career at Army-Administered, or Navy-run bases.
I LONGED to get back to a regular Air Force base.
USAF Vet here, joined under Carter (which sucked - I didn’t vote for him), and served under Reagan - which rocked. THe USAF folks I remember were hard working, hard partying, extremely conservative and not willing to take crap from anybody. 1976-1988
Why would it hack off an Air Force vet? It’s largely true....
AND WE KNOW IT, TOO.
But, you have to admit, 24-hour chow at the flying stations was cool. Nothing like breakfast after a long night at the Club before hitting the Dorms....
That’s my take - did Air Force my middle tour.
Liberals by and large are hedonists.
if we went back to squadbays in garrison they would drop to maybe five percent in the ground pounders.
A pingy for your thoughts my friend.
I don't know any former Air Force enlisted members who branch transferred or sought commissions in the Navy or Army.
Most of them chose the Air Force because it allowed for a better family life. And conservatives temd to be family-oriented. That's my experience.
Marines are another story. They are Marines because the like to break things and kill people--and no one can do it better. Why go anywhere else?
I think you need to re read my post.
I remember sending flight crews back to the terminal because we had no fuel to fly, or repair parts if a plane was down.
Yeah, I couldn't stand the "lib" policy's of the AF, so I "palace chased" to the Army. Had a great time there. There are libs in the Army, but not as much as the AF.
That said, now, when I talk with the Army Infantry guys my son serves with and I see NO libs....
Nah, trust me, there are LOTS of leftists in the Army, too.

Percentage wise, I suspect the Army has a higher proportion of Obama voters than any of the other branches.
Excellent question, and I think the Air Force has always had that type of mentality.
Whenever the went into an area to set up a new Air Force Base, they always made sure that there was money allocated right up front for Class “A” barracks for the troops, a good exchange, a commissary, proper mess hall, adequate married Enlisted and Officer Quarters and proper Enlisted and Officer Clubs on the base.
Once all that was done, they came back to a willing Congress for more appropriations for hangars, runways, and every few years, new model aircraft...
Institutional mentality.
You might wanna read up on TAC and their charter. I was lucky enough to earn both a Combat Crew Badge and a Missle Man badge. I dug foxholes with the best of em and never forgot to dig my grenade hole at a 45 deg angle.
FACP
ASOC
TACP
It’s very likely.
Simple answer: family service.
Families with long military histories trend conservative, and the Air Force is only 60 years old. My dad served in it, and as family traditions begin in the Air Force, too, then the entrants will become as conservative as in the older branches.
I was in the Navy from 3/67 to 12/70. I spent most of my time on Air Force bases and at that time, I think at least half the zoomies were liberals. I think it has to do with a kid choosing a service branch which will be easy on him/her with less chance of getting one’s butt shot off. Not quite the same as scooting off to Canada but on that same bent.
When I use to work in DoD, it was interesting. I remember one woman who was an E-7 in the army was a liberal democrat and she was a prima-donna ! There was also a retired Army Colonel who was also a liberal as well. He was big on the environmental stuff and was a big time Al Gore supporter. His background was his undergrad was from Rutgers University and got his commission from there as well. I easily pissed both of these people off !
