In order to move, Californians need to sell their houses. How is that possible right now? I don’t live in CA, but there are 2 houses in my neighborhood that have been for sale for 3 years.

You got that right. We have a geodesic dome in Riverside County. It can't be refinanced to lower payments and can't be financed because of barry/barney new FHA loan rules. So in essence if we don't get 100% cash we are stuck. (Ok, I guess we could do owner finance, to wobbly for me to try.)

They can always just walk away and let the bank deal with trying to sell it. The bank can’t come after you for the deficiency, at least as long as you haven’t refinanced your mortgage.
