I said rebels, not Confederates. Rebels around Charleston fired cannons at Star of the West in January 1861.
If we’re gonna go that route, Union guerillas had been firing on Reb guerillas in Missouri for years before the formation of the Confederate government....at some point you have to decide what’s war & what’s a local disturbance.
It was not rebels, it was not even adults, it was three kids 16 and 17 years of age, out past curfew from the citadel. I suspect that they never acknowledged to themselves their responsibility in the deaths of 600k Americans.
The citadel has an award called ;The Star of The West;. The student who is awarded it is destined for great things. My son is a recipient of the Star of The West.
