Condoleezza Rice diplomatic in her support of Cleveland Browns

Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice visited her favorite NFL team at its headquarters in Berea on Thursday and declared the Browns are headed in the "right direction," despite their 1-5 record.

Rice, who was in town to sign her new memoir, "Extraordinary, Ordinary People," said she met with Browns team President Mike Holmgren at a speaking engagement earlier in the day, and he did nothing but bolster her enthusiasm for her beloved team.

"I have enormous respect for him," Rice said. "He is what my father would call a football man. He is someone who has brought direction and a winning attitude to every organization he's been involved with, and you can already see the impact on the Browns. I can hardly wait to see what he's going to do over the next few years with this franchise."

Rice is a lifelong Browns fan after growing up watching the team with her father, John, on TV at their home in Birmingham, Ala.

She was such a huge fan of Browns coach Paul Brown that when then-owner Art Modell fired him in 1963, she said she went into her room and tore down all the Browns posters in her bedroom. She was 8.

I think this article proves that when it comes to sports, even brilliant and accomplished people can be stupid....

Condi is much better with the football thing than politics. Hope she sticks with that. Let's hope she's good luck for the Browns ... at 1 and 5 they're gonna need it. ;o)

As a life-long Steelers fan, I have utmost respect for anyone that remained a Browns fan through the period of time they didn’t even exist. THAT is the definition of a true fan.

true how true but she still sucks because she is a browns fan. On can not get around the fact that all browns fans suck. Not too bright either. Why back a sure loser for the next ten years.

I find the Browns an interesting team to watch develop. They have an extremely good running back in Hyllis (wish he was wearing Burgundy and Gold) and are developing a solid offensive line. The odd thing to watch is seeing Holmgren developing what looks like a smash mouth team versus the west coast team. If the Browns stay on target with smash mouth they will become a force to reckon with. If they go the west coast route they will be dependent on a “great QB and receiver” to save their bacon. Stick with smash mouth.

If Browns fans (Ohioans) were all like Stoolers fans (Pennsylvanians), we’d have had Dim Presidents in 2000 and 2004.

Sorry to be the one to tell you but a third of the people from Ohio are Steelers fans. At least they cheer for team that has won a Super Bowl.

The Cleveland Brown-eyes have a long way to go and the QB has only plated in one game. Next game he could toss six interceptions and drop six fumbles. The only thing good about the browns is that the Dawg Pound is in one place so all the sh*t will stick together. Jut wait till the ravens get hold of that young boy at QB. Wanna talk about child molestation. The Steelers were and always do play nice but the ravens will have no mercy.
