"Any top ten list is bound to be subjective, but this one has criteria: to make this list, a show must have longevity (Sports Night was great, but didnt last), staying power (Threes Company was funny, but hopelessly dated), strong writing (hopefully self-explanatory) and memorable moments (theres a good reason that the final episode of M.A.S.H. was until very recently the most watched show in television history). Here are my choices, and let the debate begin."
My top twenty, many of which are from before I was born -
I Spy,
McCloud,
The Rockford Files,
The Virginian,
Bonanza,
Gunsmoke,
The Andy Griffith Show,
Wagon Train,
Trackdown,
Wanted Dead or Alive,
Combat
The Fugitive,
Maverick,
Cheyenne,
Tombstone Territory,
Laramie,
The Rifleman,
The Twilight Zone,
The Outer Limits,
12 O’Clock High.
That show is the standard by which all others should be judged. There shouldn’t be any doubt. It was that good.
Barney Miller is in reruns and its not at all dated...good show and Fawlty Towers another great show..There was another great english detective show, but I forgot the name...The show was named after the detective....
I also loved "Mary Hartman! Mary Hartman!"
Top ten for me would be Frasier, Seinfeld, Beverly Hillbillies, Mary Tyler Moore, CSI (Las Vegas when Grissom was on it), Carol Burnett, SNL, Dexter, and 24.
The comedies would have to absolutely make me laugh out loud, and not just the first time I saw the episode, and the dramas would have to make me wish I could watch another episode when the one I am watching ends.
Um. No. Laugh In probably did not have Betty White at 90 talking about her "muffin" and how "dry" it is...
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Actually Firefly was a cute show and Nathan’s new show Castle is ok, but a little repetitive.Needs more variety in the scripts. He seems like a nice, humble guy. There was another little Canadian show a few years ago that I found entertaining - Due South.Although the last season of DS floundered a bit.
PLEASE STOP NOW......:O)But you did hit the best westerns..Raw Hide (theme song by my favorite singer of the day, Frankie Laine..... and Have gun...
Keeping Up Appearances, I really miss it. Unfortunately Oregon Public Bradcasting only had about 10 episodes total in their library when they aired it.
I never heard of Buffy!
Yes...Have Gun, Will Travel with Paladin
Wanted: Dead or Alive with Steve McQueen!
Oh darn - I should have included Rawhide and Have Gun Will Travel too, so many golden oldies that are just lovely, knew I would forget one or two. And look at tv now, hardly anything now.
I thought the banker’s secretary was a hoot on “Beverly Hillbillies.”
Come On!
How about Laugh-In or even .. The Smothers Brothers?
What, no game shows in almost 200 posts?
I’ve Got A Secret
What’s My Line
Hollywood Squares (original)
