Kiss loyalists, long the butt of rock-critic jokes, have a new reason to be rankled: the artists listed on the Hall of Fame's 2011 ballot, which was announced this morning, include the Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi, Donovan, Tom Waits, LL Cool J, Dr. John, the J. Geils Band, Darlene Love, Laura Nyro, Donna Summer, Joe Tex, and Chuck Willis. The Beastie Boys got a nod in 2008. Nyro, LL Cool J, and Summer were all nominated last year. Kiss is conspicuously absent, yet again.
Hard-rock icon Kiss released its self-titled debut in 1974, which means in 1999 the band became eligible for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But Kiss wasn't listed among the nominated bands in 1999 -- or 2000, or even 2001, for that matter. In 2009, the theatrical band finally made the ballot, but it didn't rack up enough votes for induction, and fans fumed while ABBA and the Stooges received the honor instead.

No one comes close to this guy on the drums.
Do yourself a favor and buy the Full House CD. Put it in your stereo and turn the volume to 11. You will not be disappointed.
Tull is still on the outside looking in? I didn’t know that. Well, that’s just more proof that the hall is a joke and Wenner is an idiot.
I give the man credit where credit is due. He toiled many years (early 60's to mid 70's) before he became a "pop Icon".
He wrote a lot of good songs for a lot of people and that is why I gave him the benefit of the doubt by giving him a yes.
Elton John is another one, that I would give the benefit of the doubt to, not for the crap he did after "Yellow Brick Road" (which had a lot of crap on it) but for a lot of great music on the albums before that transitional album.
Which was a huge problem in my 1970's teen years ... I'm a Rocker who couldn't dance (lots of Rockers can't! LOL) ... and here I was trying to sow wild oats in nightclubs where Disco dancing was the main attraction ... YIKES!!! Besides that, I hated Disco music anyways ... still do!
/laughs
The only good thing from the Disco Era:
Don’t know much about dancin’
That’s why I got this song
One of my legs is shorter than the other
‘N’ both my feet’s too long
‘Course now right along with ‘em
I got no natural rhythm
But I go dancin’ every night
Hopin’ one day I might get it right
I’m a dancin’fool, I’m a
Dancin’ fool
I hear that beat; I jump outa my seat
But I can’t compete, cause I’m a
Dancin’ fool, I’m a
Dancin’ fool
The disco folks all dressed up
Like they’s fit to kill
I walk on in ‘n’ see ‘em there
Gonna give them all a thrill
When they see me comin’
They all steps aside
They has a fit while I commit
My social suicide,
I’m a Dancin’ fool,
I’m a Dancin’ fool
The beat goes on
And I’m so wrong
The beat goes on
And I’m so wrong
The beat goes on’n’I’m so wrong
The beat goes on ‘n’ I’m so wrong
The beat goes on ‘n’ I’m so wrong
I may be totally wrong, but I’m a
Dancin’fool, I’m a
Dancin’ fool
Yowsa, yowsa, yowsa
I got it all together now
With my very own disco clothes, hey!
My shirt’s half open, t’show you my chains
‘N’ the spoon for up my nose
I am really somethin’
That’s what you’d prob’ly say
So smoke your little smoke
Drink your little drink
While I dance the night away, I’m a
Dancin’fool, I’m a
Dancin’fool, efc., etc.
I may be totally wrong but I’m a
I may be totally wrong but I’m a
I may be totally wrong but I’m a FOOL-uh!
Hey, darlin’... can I buyya a drink?
Lookin’ for Mister Goodbar?
Here he is... Wait a minute...
I’ve got it... you’re an Italian! Hah?
Yer Jewish?
Love your nails ... you must be a Libra... Your place or mine?
Thanks, I will check it out.
First time
I missed RUSH this tour (saw them twice last time around). Hopefully they will be around next year with their new album.
They DID get a star on Hollywood Blvd. though!
In the documentary it was funny where Gene Simmons was talking about how the girl’s would be lined up down the hallway and take turns with them. He said something like “Rock and Roll - where a guy that looks like me can get laid! Always wondered about those three guys in Rush though - sitting in their room watching T.V., reading, or working on new songs.”
MM says:
“GO COOP !!!”
~~~
Maybe this will be his time!! I hope so!
BTW-That’s a great pic, MM - is it one of yours?
Junie
I was saying that he should be in the HoF based on his song writing.
He is not a guy whose albums I listen to, but I do respect his contributions, which are very big.
“I missed RUSH this tour (saw them twice last time around). Hopefully they will be around next year with their new album.”
I saw them at the Riverside Theater in Milwaukee in 1977. They had enough sound to blow the roof off the old arena, but this was a far smaller venue. Great show and it took about three days for my hearing to return to normal!
As far as the HOF, I’d rather leave it then take it.
Re: LL Cool J (What the crap is that?) has nothing to do with Rock & Roll. Spot on. Rap and Hip Hop are basically crap. I like what Thomas Sowell wrote about them: “You asked me for a ‘few words of wisdom’ for your teenage son, who has apparently been drawn into the counterproductive world of rap and the like. It breaks my heart that a whole generation of black youngsters may throw away their own chances in this world because of this corrupt silliness. I am afraid that the words that come to my mind are not words of wisdom nor even words that could be repeated in polite society. What I would do to those who are pushing this self-destructive stuff on the young would not be permitted by the Geneva Convention.” Just so.
I suspect part of the reason for the snub is that Gene Simmons is an outspoken conservative.
