Eyewitness Astonished As Wheat Circle Formed © 2010 by Linda Moulton Howe
“Some force (from UFO?) was shaking the wheat - Pasquale Galante, English Teacher
The modern age of crop circle formations began in the 1980s in the region of Hampshire and Wiltshire Counties of southern England. Researcher and photographer Lucy Pringle described in her 1999 book, Crop Circles: The Greatest Mystery of Modern Times, one eyewitness case. Around 5:30 PM on July 11, 1981, in Westbury, Wiltshire, researcher Ray Barnes watched seed heads on a crop “jiggle” as if shaken while a “wave or line” of invisible force moved in an arc across the field. Then in only a few seconds, a section of the crop went down in a neat circle. Two years later at the end of August 1983, near Lancaster, Pennsylvania, west of Philadelphia, another eyewitness watched in amazement as wheat heads also jiggled back and forth before going down in a circle. That summer, Pasquale Galante was 37 years old and studying with a Buddhist group at Haverford College. One evening around 9 PM after meditation, Pasquale was approached by a couple who told him there was a huge crop formation near Lancaster about 45 minutes from where they were at the college. Lancaster is about 70 miles west of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pasquale decided to follow the couple in his station wagon to see the crop mystery. They pulled their cars off to the side of a road in Lancaster farm country. The moon was nearly full, so it was not difficult to see as they began walking up a small hill on the edge of the farm. The couple told Pasquale the big crop circles were right over the hill. But before the three reached the top, what appeared in the sky above the wheat field stopped them in astonishment. Interview: Pasquale Galante, English Teacher, Santa Barbara, California: “As soon as I started getting to the top of the little hill, all of a sudden I was aware of some kind of energy. Three or four things happened simultaneously. There was a kind of humming sound. The wind picked up a lot and as the wind picked up, I noticed the field of grain to my right. I’m pretty sure it was wheat and it started shaking back and forth. And almost immediately after the wheat started shaking, it started spinning. I’m sure it spun clockwise. But at the same time, I was aware of this force field, this energy, and then it was like an ozone smell. And I heard humming – and this was all happening pretty much simultaneously – it only lasted about 30 seconds realistically. When I heard the humming sound, I think I looked up a little and then I saw the craft. At first when I saw the craft, what intrigued me was that it had these little portholes above the center edge and it kind of looked like what people draw a traditional spacecraft where it was wider in the center with little humps on the top and bottom. But what intrigued me was there were lights all around the center that I was facing.
In reality the shape was in flux. I saw what I thought were windows and I drew them as I remember. The lights are a little more vague in my memory, but the image was morphing into the second picture (below), which then had the bottom piece opening and then closing.” Illustration © 2010 by Pasquale Galante.
HOW HIGH ABOVE YOU? About 40 feet away from my left and it was about 40 feet above the ground. . . . SO YOU ARE PRETTY CLOSE. Yes, pretty close because I was afraid the beings would shut off whatever they started because I felt this surge going through me. WHEN YOU SAY YOU FELT A SURGE, WHAT DO YOU MEAN? When the whirling sound and the wind and the grain started vibrating and the humming sound, I felt kind of a power going through me, an actual physical power. I don’t know what it was, but it was almost like I was afraid to move and I was hoping that it wouldn’t get too intense. It was almost like a cellular vibration in the sense that I felt something surging, especially through my left side more than the right. WHAT ARE YOU SEEING BOTH IN THE FIELD AND IN THE CRAFT? The craft disappeared before the wheat totally flattened down. After the lights went off, the center, which was to my right, the bottom dropped down like a cargo hull. It dropped down about 20 feet and there were two sides like a traditional cargo hull dropping down, but it came out of a seamless thing. I didn’t see any seams that it came from. So, it was almost like someone’s jaw dropping.
It descended just like any ramp - similar to one on a big cargo plane. I could see ‘inside,’ but what I saw was still only five or ten feet inside and all I saw was the inside of this opening - nothing else. I was to the left, and all I saw was more of the ramp. WHAT WAS THE SHAPE OF THAT SPACE THAT WAS MADE WHEN IT DROPPED DOWN. Pretty much rectangular and dark and I got a little frightened thinking, ‘Oh, I don’t know that I need any more of this!’ (laughs) I don’t want contact. SO YOU WERE AFRAID THAT BEINGS MIGHT BE COMING DOWN AT THAT POINT? Yes, I didn’t know what to think but whatever it was – remote-controlled or if there were beings in there that I didn’t see – I felt there were two beings there, but I had no idea if they were really in there or were in another ship viewing that? But then the underneath portal closed up again. The bottom closed up and then the craft disappeared almost immediately. It just dissolved really quickly. THE WHOLE CRAFT? The whole craft just dissolved. WAS IT A DISC-SHAPED CRAFT? It was a disc, but it wasn’t a flat one. It had ‘bumps’ on the top and bottom. THIS LARGE DISC-LIKE CRAFT DISSOLVED IN THE AIR ABOVE YOU? Yeah, it took about a half a second and it dissolved really quickly.
Wheat Shakes, Twists and Flattens WHAT WAS THE VERY NEXT THING THAT OCCURRED? The whirling sound from I guess the UFO and that smell in the air got stronger and the wheat was going around more and more clockwise. I did look down and kept watching the formation of the circle. It was kind of swaying and circling, each stalk. Then some how the stalks were going down and when they got down, they were still circling, but on a different axis. When they were circling on an angle, they were hitting each other and some of them were getting entwined. That’s what I found intriguing. Some force (from UFO?) was shaking the wheat with two different forces at once and the plants got down pretty flat. We went over and looked. The stems were not broken. That astounded me! I couldn’t find any of the grains that were broken. DESCRIBE WHAT YOU SAW WHEN YOU BENT OVER TO LOOK AT THE STALKS WHERE THEY WERE COMING OUT OF THE GROUND? That was the part that I think that I thought, ‘Oh, that’s astounding!’ None of them broke. The grains - they were almost full grown 2.5 to 3 feet high. Each one of the stalks was about 3 or 4 or 5 inches from each other. We looked at how flat it was – it went down to less than a foot high. ARE YOU LOOKING AT A CIRCLE SHAPE IN THE WHEAT? Yeah, well I was standing right on the edge of it, so I was really close. So, it looked like a circle, but it wasn’t that big. I’d say the diameter of the wheat circle we witnesses was probably 60 feet in diameter, say, between 40 and 60 feet. It was the motion that intrigued me like how it kind of got woven even though no one was weaving it. I would say these were two different, simultaneous forces. .
