Witnesses: Man Shook Parrot Until Feathers Came Out
A 49-year-old Jackson man has been arrested in Ann Arbor following a fight with the pet parrot he carried in his backpack.
Police said 911 calls started coming in around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday with witnesses reporting that a man on South Main Street was violently shaking the bird.
Officers who responded to the call said the bird's feathers were scattered everywhere, and that the bird was limping. However, police said, the bird did bite the man several times on his hands, drawing blood.
The man told police he had been trying to train the bird, and when it didn't listen, he shook it.
The man is being held in the Washtenaw County Jail pending charges.
The bird was given to an animal rescue organization.
Toucan play at that game!
Having parrots as pets, I think this guy should be put in a cage and given a horrendous shaking. This is probably the way he would “train” a baby to stop crying too. Interesting that the mans name wasn’t mentioned.
Polly want a cracker?
Polly want a crack up?
Don’t you have to be in international waters to legally fight a parrot.
I think it was a Norwegian Blue.
NAPL!
Beautiful bird, lovely plumage!
Glad they took the bird from this freaking moron.
You don’t think someone should give him the bird?
"I've been trying to train the bird, and when it didn't listen, I shook it."
Do parrots ever snatch out people’s eyes or bite off noses?
I’m sure some injuries have occured. I don’t let a parrot near my face or on my shoulder unless I trust it. Some of my parrots don’t like to be handled even though they talk and are social otherwise. A bite can be painful, but I don’t think anyone ever died from one. Their mouths are pretty clean and the bites don’t normally become infected. It’s interesting that the Crocodile Hunter, the late Steve Irwin was reported to be afraid of parrots.
