You really are one uptight dude Expand on that, please. What is wrong with encouraging posters here to obey the rules that state "no profanity"?

That is the question. What is profanity? It is in the eye of the reader. FR makes the decisions on these posts, not you not me.

That is the question. What is profanity? If the word derived from "for unlawful carnal knowledge" is not profanity, then there is no such thing as profanity.

The "no violence, racism, profanity" caveats seem to have been removed from the reply screen. Hmmmmm.
That's not the result I was hoping for. And I wonder if it signals a change in policy and if the FReepers who really want to F bomb their posts will now have it their way w/o having to substitute %#!* for a letter in their indespensible word?

Now I see it. Never mind. It continues to be unenforced / ignored, and folks get all huffy when called on it; which matters not to me. I’m going to keep calling folks as I feel the need.

I observed this forum for many years, then joined as a contributor. I, too, have noticed the increasing use of profanity and downright nasty insults and personal attacks.
We are supposed to be better than DU, but oft times I see posts that reflect no honor, no civility and no sense of civilized language and debate.
Sad to see this trend, as I fear in a few short years, open profanity and shrill voices will be all that is left of the Grant Experiment started by JR.

My grandmother always told me profanity was how the feeble minded express themselves with force... Except for Patton. He wanted to make sure his troops remembered what he said.
