My guess:
"X" + "Cave" + "8" = excavate
If "E=V" and "J=X" then "H=W" (the 23rd letter)
The arrow is pointing to the "yardarm" of the ship, therefore "Yardarm - arm" = Yard
The sun is setting in the west (and they are on the west coast of Nicaragua)
The last picture is a mangrove tree
Therefore...
Excavate 23 yards west of the Mangrove tree.

But like I said, it's just a guess.

That’s an arm and an arrow? I wondered what that was. I zoom in and it’s all pixel-y so can’t see really what’s what. Still can’t see what’s in the cave or mound or whatever it is. Mangrove tree is probably right. Ok, good to know they’re on the west side to determine the setting/rising sun. Better luck to y’all.

I used to be all into picking apart the show back in the first seasons, but between the 14 year olds over at the Survivor S. site and the boring Africa season I got a life. Oh, well.

Ok, so they’re reving up the clues for the II so they may have to wait to collect more clues or wait for an event before proceeding. Looking at this season’s logo, there is a ship (which we’ve yet to see or I missed it) with three sets of crossed (X shaped) swords, what appears to be three mangrove trees, a setting sun, two volcanos, two monkeys, a lizard, two fleur de lis (two lilies - of Frence origin so that makes no sense), and the ocean.

Over at the CBS site (linked), there is a picture of a hill/mound/whatever that looks very much like the cave/mound/whatever thing on the clue along with the setting sun. If you moved the camera angle, I wonder if the driftwood would mark an X on top of the hill?

Your logic makes sense to me, Cuz. And I sit here groaning, as I used to be quite good at those things, 30 some years ago. This is why, of course, you’d never be permitted to play Survivor.

I've also been told that the "V" and "X" could represent roman numerals "V = 5" and "X = 10" which also means that since E is the 5th letter and J is the 10th letter, and H is the 8th letter, the missing "?" would be H = VIII.
Which would make the clue "Excavate 8 yards west of the Mangrove tree (or possibably the "Male Tree" i.e. treemail).
