The name Malia is of Spanish origin and means “bitter”. It also means “calm peaceful or probaby, perhaps, or bitter” in Hawaiian... and “queen” in Swahili.

Interesting. Because the above quote is from the exact same baby site that I looked at two years ago, and at that time it tried to say that the name Malia meant “bitter” in Hawaiian, which I remember very very well, because it was such a strange thing to say.

And at that time, I can guarantee you, that there was no mention of the meaning of the word in Swahili —this has been added since I looked.

Since I wasn’t so conspiracy minded then, I didn’t try to save the site in any way — therefore, you’ll have to take my word for it. I notice that in Google, this same site keeps popping up over and over again as the number one result — very strange, that. Could it be that Google is promoting something or trying to tell us something or correcting our terrible misinterpretations of the Presidents daughter’s name?

And you may notice that the Swahili interpretation has been added on to the end of the first description “almost as an afterthought”. It seems clear to me that it was added later but that is only because I have seen this site several times, as it always comes up as the first result in any Google search.

Hmmmmmm hmmmmmmmm hmmmmmmm.

Yeah - when I first heard her name, I thought of the Spanish adjective for bad, which is ‘mal,’ and the Disney character, ‘Maleficent,’ who is, of course, the evil one in Sleeping Beauty.
