You know who is a big Dead fan - Patrick Leahy. They were refered to as a “Jug band.” You have to hit the jug or bong to enjoy them. Total BS.
Good bands that came out of Calif around the same time - two:

Maybe The Doors a little. The rest were shite.

Agree totally. He's a reclusive, narcissist queen, who thinks the world of himself. Love some of his early stuff (Sign O' The Times), but the dude is about as weird as they come.
