Colleges and Universities began closing down their Geography departments sometime after World War II.
I may be wrong but the graduate programs were the first to go. Then slowy the undergraduate programs disappeared.

I'm glad Western Kentucky University still had a Geography Department when I was there in the 90s. They were the only science courses I ever took that I actually enjoyed.
