It truly sounds like some FR posters are trying to rationalize breaking the law and then castigating other posters for getting in the way of them doing it! Speed limits are set for everyone's safety. Police don't give tickets for observing the speed limit. They give tickets for drivers exceeding the speed limit as they are the drivers who are behaving dangerously. The logic on this thread by some posters is bizarre!
Oh, boy, and I thought I was getting flamed! Hope you have your asbestos on.
Anybody who drives the speed limit in the left lane of an American highway, unless everybody in front of them is doing the same, is a menace, and causing unnecessary risk to themselves and others.
And a police officer would tell you the same thing. You go the speed of the traffic. Heck, even Genoa drives 6 miles over the limit; most people who “obey the law” do so by driving 9 miles or less over the limit.
Simply put — if you drive too slow in the left lane, you will make people upset, and upset drivers are dangerous to you and others. Better to move over, let them pass, and stop worrying about whether other people are “getting away” with something.
Otherwise, consider it civil disobedience. Just because it's the law, it don't make it right.
