Not actually. The Mackinac Bridge connects the two peninsulas. The bridge walk, usually led by the governor, is an annual event held on Labor Day. The walk is from the UP to the LP and has been jokingly called “everyone leaving the UP.”

I should have remembered that.
Flew over it one time back in the early 90s in a commuter plane on a vivid sunny day in January. Everything was frozen / snow covered.
The beauty of that image sticks in my mind.
