You are entirely right - many homosexuals, both male and female, had fathers who were either physically absent or emotionally very cold and distant, or abusive.
There’s more to it but that’s the part you mentioned, and it is true. Boys with no fathers tend to have other negatives too, like a tendency to commit crimes.
In other words, having one absent parent can really mess a kid up - Obama had two absent parents. I shudder to think of his psychological profile and the position of power that he is in. A really dangerous combination!
