The first “Blackfoot” I met was a young Frenchman who’s family had owned a vinyard in Algiers, before Charles de Gaulle turned it back to the Arabs. They were called “blackfeet” because they were paramilitary and wore black combat boots (and carried weapons as well as implements).
He stayed with my family for about 6 weeks one summer as an exchange student. From there he wound up in Australia.
He and his family were bitter of how they lost their vinyards, they received little compensation and it was years before it happened.
