They must have replaced them over time.
We have a Bible that was grabbed out of a lodge in Mexico just before Zapata’s goon squad got there. A few other things were also liberated. We used the Bible for decades, until its historical signifiance outweighed the damage done to it by constant handling. We replaced it and it is now kept in a glass case. Many members know very little of its history. In another fifty years, I wonder how many will understand its true worth.
Knowing how large a roll Mason’s played in the founding of our country, I have often wondered if the majority of today’s Mason’s have gone the way of the progressive movement, or do they still feel strongly about our constitution as the rule of law and not a living document.
Somebody needs to write a narrative describing the provenance of that Bible. That is something that should be kept with the lore of the lodge and passed on to the members — unless there is a museum of Masonry somewhere where it could be preserved.
