Mel Gibson is poised to quit the US after selling his mansion near New York.
The disgraced Lethal Weapon star, who faces allegations of violence from his Russian former girlfriend, sold the mock Tudor property, known as Old Mill Farm, for £16 million – £10 million less than the asking price.
Gibson has also put his Malibu home, Lavender Hill Farm, on the market for £10 million, according to a property newsletter.
He has told friends that he will move back to Australia - where he grew up after moving from America when he was 12 - with his ex-wife Robyn, who still supports him.
Gibson, 54, is ready to contest the allegations of Oksana Grigorieva, 40, who claims he punched her and hurt their baby, Lucia, in a drunken rage in January.
A source close to the family said: ‘Oksana’s allegations have united Mel and Robyn and this move is her idea.

Mel needs to take a break. Even if it is altered he needs to understand his battles and fight them on fair footing. Someone is manipulating his words and that source can be directly linked to who he was communicating with. The reasons seem quite sinister. I hope he can find himself and his strength to fight back.

You imply that his dialect adjustment is a smoking gun indicating false character. While this charge may on some level be aimed at the entire acting profession -- and its audiences -- it doesn't make sense as a means of "piling on" to an actor when he's down, since his profession demands a great ear.
Some people are just natural "language people", experiencing language the way a musician experiences music -- with the ability to hear the perfect pitch and the subtleties that each language contains uniquely. Other people maintain their original accent for life, even if it is broken English and they have lived in this country for decades.
The Australian actor Simon Baker speaks the two dialects in public -- American on his hit show "The Mentalist" and Australian in chat show appearances, but is gradually losing his Aussie accent the longer he stays here.
I personally modified my southern accent when I went to college at age 17 in a northern state and was teased over it -- something Gibson undoubtedly encountered if he returned to America at age 12. I adopted what I call "television announcer" as my dialect, and stayed with it as long as I was working professionally. When I lived in an Italian-American neighborhood, it was also useful to learn the Sicilian-inspired dialects you hear on The Real Housewives of New Jersey for dealing with local officials, proprietors and neighbors. Now having retired to Maryland, I'm reverting to Marylandese for casual conversation. I'm also workmanly fluent in several other European languages and use them in my retirement job dealing with the public. "Interesting"? Or just a practical adaptation?
Maybe if he’d done it 30yrs ago...

I hope they get back together. He had one of those mid-life brain meltdowns and should never have left his wife in the first place.
Alcoholism is a family- and a character-killer, it's true. At best, he could add vitality to the Australian film industry. But the road ahead must contain true rehabilitation.
I saw a most intriguing interview with the gay and Jewish Harvey Levin, the lawyer and astute businessman behind the showbiz gossip enterprise TMZ. He was surprisingly compassionate about the Gibson meltdown, implying that Gibson is experiencing a deep self-loathing as he realizes just how badly he has blown it with his family over a younger woman who turns out to be a shark.
And when he knocked her teeth out, she probably deserved that too.

I think Mel may have a chemical imbalance like a manic or hypomanic disorder. I hope he sees someone and gets help for this.
Did he? The damage is not consistent with being punched in the mouth. There's no bloody lip damage. However, she lost a veneer and chipped one which IS consistent with simply eating an apple. You can't eat raw carrots either.
