The author missed one thing...velociraptors were about 3’ tall, not the six foot monsters of Jurassic Park. Spielberg modeled his dinos on a somewhat larger animal with a less scary sounding name. He attached the name to larger beasts for dramatic effect.

Yep! The ‘V-raptors’ of J-Park were made larger in the thought that this would make them scarier; about the size of the “Utahraptor” that was (IIRC) discovered AFTER the movie, or at least after the editorial decision to ‘amp up’ the size of the velociraptors.

For myself, I think a boatload of 3’ tall feathered killing machine V-raptors would be actually (if not visually) much more threatening than the same body mass in a few 6’ tall reptile looking U-raptors.
