80-Year-Old Woman Mauled By Pit Bull (“The top of her scalp was gone.")

JONESBORO, Ga. -- A Clayton County man has been arrested after two of his pit bulls attacked his 80-year-old neighbor, police said.

Joel Robinson, 28, is charged with reckless conduct. Clayton County police said Doretha Crews was walking to her mailbox July 3 when the dogs attacked her.

Neighbor Lynn Duffey rushed to the woman's aid.

“And I hollered, ‘Mama Dog, get off of her!’” Duffey said. She said she thinks the dogs obeyed her command because they recognized her voice. Duffey’s backyard is connected to Robinson’s backyard, and she said she often yelled at the dogs when they fought each other.

Duffey said she and other neighbors immediately called 911. “The top of her scalp was gone. She was bleeding. She had lacerations on her face. She had lacerations on her leg,” Duffey said.

Animal control officers captured the dogs. A third pit bull remained in Robinson’s back yard Friday. Neighbors said 11 puppies also remain on the property.

The two pit bulls that attacked Crews are in quarantine, police said. An animal control board will decide whether they will be put down.

Neighbors said Crews has been released from the hospital and is recovering with family members.

Owning a pit bull is a form of “bling” and power to a lot of blacks. Showing his picture points out he’s not Amish. Could be Muslim though.

My son left me with a pitbull. I also have 2 GSP’s. I see a huge difference in their instincts. When they are outside playing, the GSP’s style of play is to grab something and chase eachother, or just to fetch for hours. The pitbull, will not fetch, intstead she waits for them to come out of the woods and then chase and bite them. She instinctively goes for the neck or their back legs. The GSP’s never do this to eachother.

She is loving to us, but I would not trust her as far as I could spit. Today, we are having a BBQ and unfortunately she will have to be crated, too many kids.

I wish I could find a home for her, someone who likes having a dominate breed.......I don’t. And I have owned many different breeds in my lifetime and I can see a difference in this breed.

I used to go to a Petsmart close to my house that was predominately black. There would be guys in there with their pits, huge head and jowls, big collars, very intimidating. I had a Newfoundland, the sweetest, least aggressive dog you could own. I’d turn the corner with that dog and when I tell you, all those tough guys would scatter, lol. I would watch them peaking around the corner waiting for me to leave.

Neighbor down about a mile down the road has/or had, two pitbulls. He let them roam free. One day last fall they came over to my farm. They ganged up on my female Great Pyrenees tore her face up some. My huge male Pyrenees came to her rescue and killed one pit and nearly tore the leg off the other. I went down the the neighbor and told him. He could have cared less, shoot em he said. I haven't seen the other pit I think it later died.

The Great Pyrenees are beautiful dogs....but I wonder if they eat you out of house and home......:O)

Looks like you guys have a great media ally. The truth is that almost every day of the week there is an article somewhere about a Pit Bull doing damage. Now if it is true what you posted then including all the other dogs mentioned, there must be thousands upon thousands of attacks on a daily basis. I'll tell you one thing, if that was my mother that was attacked and the pit bull was yours, you both would be in dire danger and soon.

Why? The point of your threads about pit bulls has zero to do with what the owners look like. You know I like these threads, but the vast majority of them don’t have photos of the owners.

There’s a strain running through a lot of threads these days, from calling Michelle Obama a wookie on down, so maybe I’m just making associations that aren’t there. But I read all of your pitbull threads that I see, and I don’t recall seeing mugshots on most of them. I don’t see what the face of the owner has to do with anything.
