I’m watching too — was hoping Andy could somehow pull it out, but as it is, I agree that Contador has got to know he’s got a real fight on his hands next year. So many “only ifs” and “what could’ve/should’ve beens” is this one. I’m sure he’s proud, but I don’t think this was a clear victory at all.

Contador needed to win the time trial by more than 40 seconds, to prove that he didn’t need his unsportsmanlike conduct to beat Andy. Alberto didn’t do that. If he hadn’t taken off when he saw Andy’s chain come off, and everything else had stayed the same, he would have lost.

Of course, you’d have to think that if he needed another 10 seconds to win the race, he might have been able to get it.

Of course, he would have had the disadvantage of riding before Andy. That was the key advantage Contador got by taking advantage of Andy’s chain slip.
