When my computer was down, I tried to boot it with a live Ubuntu CD, could never get the USB ports working. It turned into a frustrating endeavor.

Mint 9 "Isadora" is based on Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx" and is much more user friendly for linux noobs.
