You know the anniversary of Malvern Hill always gets overshadowed by that little skirmish in southern Pennsylvania that occurred a year later :)

As does the fall of Vicksburg a day later. It's amazing what a little publicity and a presidential visit can do to boost a locale's place in history.

You know, had Lee won at Gettysburg then that battle would be as obscure to most people as Chancellorsville is, and legions of school children would have had to memorize Lincoln's Vicksburg Address.

So why do you think that is a “cook video”?

Cool video. Spellcheck should flag what I mean and not what I type.

OK, that would explain it. I also thought it was a cool video. Shows very well the ebb and flow of the war and how much of the populated part of the country that it really touched. And I just love that song from the Ken Burns Civil War series.

Possibly because White Oak Swamp was really just a large skirmish with only a handful of casualties. At the same time this was going on on the confederate right, the confederate left under Longstreet was having a go at the Union army at Frayser's Farm.

Oops, got my left and right reversed. Confederate left - White Oak Swamp. Confederate Right - Frayser’s Farm.

True - only a handful.

But the men were just as scared during the battle. And after, just as dead.

I guarantee there are folks who commute to work on route 3 (the Plank Road) every day and if you asked them about Chancellorsville they'd give you a blank stare.

Thanks mainepatsfan.

It seemed as if you'd stopped doing these, maybe that's incorrect, regardless, I'm glad you do it.

Well some days I haven’t been able to get to a computer. We’ve got a few big dates coming up over the next few days so I’ll try to make sure I get them posted.

“I guarantee there are folks who commute to work on route 3 (the Plank Road) every day and if you asked them about Chancellorsville they’d give you a blank stare.”

There was a time, and it wasn’t that many years ago, that I could tell you very little or nothing at all about the lesser written about and less publicized battles. When doing family research I studied up on these lesser known battles that my ancestors fought in and others as well, and learned a whole lot more about that horrific war than what I was taught in school.
Now just the mere mention of the words, Chancellorsville, The Wilderness, Petersburg, or Cold Harbor sends chills up my spine.

Some day I would love to make the long trip back there and visit those sites.
