The YMs paraded well. We got a break, fortunately, from the severe heat that was present during a couple of the practice sessions, which I’m sure was a great relief to the three boys who vomited while practicing the box step the other day (no girls so much as complained about the conditions — the tougher sex?)

I remembered everything but the camera, so no pics. There were actually two YM units in the parade (they are always vying for best presentation and a bit of a competition exists). Ours definitely showed superior marching skills, so those brutal practice sessions evidently were not for naught.

Speaking of uniforms, the YM young ladies have what I call the “Officer’s Dress Uniform” (I’m sure any reader with a military background could correct me on the exact title). Anyway, these dress uniforms weren’t worn for the parade but look really sharp on ceremonial occasions such as Memorial Day. The unit has one teenage YM Sargent who has outstanding speaking skills, and looks great in the uniform, so she frequently gets the podium assignment.

I managed to evade the SAT, not so much the Washington Pre-College Test, the GRE, and the GMAT. I was always much better at test-taking than doing useful work so those were the high points.

I’m glad it went well. We’ve had some Boy Scouts upchucking during the Personal Fitness badge workouts this summer. They wrapped up today.

The standard ladies’ military dress uniform in the services is a skirt, uniform blouse, cap, and pumps. I still have a pair of black Navy uniform pumps that I bought when I was working at the Naval base in Norfolk, over 20 years ago. Nothing like a pair of sturdy shoes!
