One of the best movies of all time. :)

LOL!

I haven’t seen it. But I’ve seen “300 Spartans” and “Lawrence of Arabia,” which latter is the one perfect movie ever made.

Only Peter O’Toole could steal the lead from Richard Burton “ Beckett”

The YMs paraded well. We got a break, fortunately, from the severe heat that was present during a couple of the practice sessions, which I’m sure was a great relief to the three boys who vomited while practicing the box step the other day (no girls so much as complained about the conditions — the tougher sex?)

I remembered everything but the camera, so no pics. There were actually two YM units in the parade (they are always vying for best presentation and a bit of a competition exists). Ours definitely showed superior marching skills, so those brutal practice sessions evidently were not for naught.

Speaking of uniforms, the YM young ladies have what I call the “Officer’s Dress Uniform” (I’m sure any reader with a military background could correct me on the exact title). Anyway, these dress uniforms weren’t worn for the parade but look really sharp on ceremonial occasions such as Memorial Day. The unit has one teenage YM Sargent who has outstanding speaking skills, and looks great in the uniform, so she frequently gets the podium assignment.

I managed to evade the SAT, not so much the Washington Pre-College Test, the GRE, and the GMAT. I was always much better at test-taking than doing useful work so those were the high points.

I’m glad it went well. We’ve had some Boy Scouts upchucking during the Personal Fitness badge workouts this summer. They wrapped up today.

The standard ladies’ military dress uniform in the services is a skirt, uniform blouse, cap, and pumps. I still have a pair of black Navy uniform pumps that I bought when I was working at the Naval base in Norfolk, over 20 years ago. Nothing like a pair of sturdy shoes!

"In 10 years, we should have only the four little boys at home: 18, 16, 14, and 11. Then we can do lots of rafting and other fun outdoor stuff!"

I do admire your sense of humor!

One of the best movies of all time. :)

A nasty slur on Persians but perhaps a good movie as regards the nature of courage and patriotism.

Don't get me wrong, I've got Greek friends too, but the characterization of Persians in this movie is SO far off the mark it isn't even funny; it's slander or libel but I don't know which.

Slander in the movie and libel in the screen play.

Gotcha. I am not a lawyer, nor do I play one onscreen.

I couldn’t hit a ball, throw a ball well, catch a ball well nor run well.

My firm's softball team tried to recruit me years ago. I told them I couldn't run, throw, catch or hit, and the guy said, "Can you SHOW UP? We have to have more women." I had to tell him that with my commute, I couldn't do that either. Sorry!

I’m doing great. I feel better every day, and most of the things that I can’t control are under control.

I keep waiting to hear you say you’re going to visit some people back East, because I want to be one of them.

Coasties wear pants, as a rule, aside from some older ladies (Admirals and such.) I have a pair of pumps somewhere, but have never worn them.
We’re at a yacht club near the base. Very nice. Food, internet, booze. I ordered a steak sandwich and Tiger beer. Safe enough. Tiger, unlike Guiness or Yuengling, tastes the same in every country. Am now contemplating using my BAH to get a 40-foot yacht (sails and a motor), which I could then live on when I get bored with the Coast Guard. Tie it up in Anguilla and sail to Spain and France in the spring and summer. I could take all the byos for field trips, when they got old enough. Not sure how this will fit in with being a lawyer. Maybe a travel journalist would work better. That would also be fun. Not sure what my angle would be, yet. ‘History and politics’ perhaps. ‘Adventure on the high seas.’ With emphasis on how the Coast Guard is like being a pirate, only government-sanctioned. So like being a privateer. ‘Adventures with your younger brothers on the high seas..’
Or, like Robin Masters (and other esteemed made-up characters) I could be a novelist. One of the fun types that write about drinking and fighting, and not a boring one whose characters are all PC and agonize about killing people. Mysteries, maybe.

It’s good to have a plan. Pat can help you with your plots, and James and Vlad can act out battles for you. There’s bound to be a market for “Travels with my obsessive-compulsive, Greek-speaking, alien younger brother.”

I’ve dragged your other brother out of bed at an unspeakably early hour (just before 0700 - Ash was having a Yip) because they’re supposed to go running before church.

No, only a couple of pictures of Bill pretending he didn’t know those crazy people, and Charlotte looking stuned. But Bill usually looks like that ;-).

I have a DVD of Anoreth’s graduation, including the back of our family’s heads because they were sitting right in front of the camera!
