All good points. I've got to suspect, however, if she didn't truly excel on the SAT that the instrument isn't testing the right abilities. Her writing is creative and knowledge base is unbelievably broad for that age. Also hope that Obama doesn't conscript the CG for his own purposes, as has happened recently.

Off to Fourth parade, where Young Marines are marching!

I like frisbee, skating, swimming, . . . sledding . . . water slides, river rafting.

I couldn’t hit a ball, throw a ball well, catch a ball well nor run well.

Watching sports, unless I have a loved one playing, is about as exciting as watching paint peel, to me.

Have fun at the parade. You could post of picture of the Young Marines here, if you get a good one!

The SAT tests (among other things) test-taking aptitude. I’ve got the gift for it, but Anoreth doesn’t, although she toughed up for the ASVAB when it was really important to her. And she’s not motivated to learn math, much. She’s taking college algebra *again* during this cruise; if it goes well, she can take calculus next year and then be finished with college math.

I think you’ve got one of those Alternate Histories confused with “1776.”

When the mobile members of the family visited Philadelphia after Anoreth’s CG graduation, she and her dad performed selected musical numbers up and down the stairs of Independence Hall. Even in the blurry digital pictures, I could tell Bill was about to die of embarassment. And my sister-in-law, the English vicar’s daughter, was totally flummoxed.

Our Boy Scouts went rafting last weekend. I haven’t been since the late 1980s, before I was married!

Sally tells me the Young Marines were in our local parade, too. She admired their uniforms.

If your Madeline would like an age-appropriate Howya from Seaman Anoreth in far-off Singapore, let me know. She knows how to write for different audiences ;-).

IT’S BEEN MORE THAN A DECADE FOR ME.

Ran one in China . . . on thin bamboo rafts!

I’ll bet that was exciting! Dad and I did the New River Gorge in West Virginia.

In 10 years, we should have only the four little boys at home: 18, 16, 14, and 11. Then we can do lots of rafting and other fun outdoor stuff!

Yellow grits. Hominy grits have been soaked and bleached in something icky.

(that was funny)

Get your fill...Obama and his fellow communists have “arranged” for a shortage. Most of it will come from the area your daughter is in right now.

Shortage of grits? They grow corn here in North Carolina. Right past the end of my block, in fact.

Nah, just shrimp. Most of it will come from Indonesia and Thailand.
