Everytime I'm in Boston (which is not often anymore) I try to get over to tour Old Ironsides. She has
quite a history, and to think she was saved in part at one point (ca 1925) by schoolchildrens' pennies!
Next time I'm taking one of my better cameras.

I’ve never been there, but if I recall my elementary school history correctly, the school children DID save their pennies. And in 1925, a penny meant much more than we can even imagine today.
Odd, but my history in America began in Boston/MA/The Colonies, and yet, I’ve never been there or had the inclination to do so. Maybe I need to save MY pennies and make the trip!
And with that, I’m off to bed. I can’t do anyone any good for the rest of the night, so I’m outta here.

You should go. Boston is worth it. What's the trail through the city called -- the Freedom Trail? And of course you MUST ride Charlie's MTA (but they call it something else now); an inexpensive way to cover some distance, as long as your destination is near a station, and it connects to the airport. (My last trip to the airport was faster even with a train change than a taxi would have been. And MUCH less expensive.)
I might be able to help out some.
Good night.

I have a friend in Whitman MA, but I don’t know if she is up to being Tour Guide. She has been in poor health for several years now, but I’ll call her on the weekend and see what she thinks.
I’m sure she would put up an enormous effort to make sure I saw all that needed to be seen. I’ll FReepmail you.

Oh, G*wd! We have a really nasty Republican fight developing here, even splitting the local FReepers to the point of name-calling. Once again we’re likely to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

The zombies would have to stop mid brain gnoshing to ponder something bizarre and unreleated.

Good morning, FRiends. I saw the news about Congressman Billybob on the NC Forum before I went to bed. Very, very sad. I don’t think I met him in Real Life, but the NC people are all pretty close.

A full life and a distinguished career. I loved the articles about his life up in the mountains, with a view. I’m sure I would have liked to sit around with a drink, watch the view, and listen to him talk.

It reminds me that it could be any one of us, any day. I’ll have to email Anoreth; she met him at CPAC.
