You missed the one that will have the scariest effect on Americans: Phosphoric acid.

The dissolving effects of phosphoric acid are urban legend, or not really all that impressive when you examine the claims, but...

Bone is made of calcium phosphate. Your body infers how much calcium it has available why measuring the levels of phosphate in its system. Plenty of phosphate must mean plenty of calcium. But if you ingest phosphate without calcium, you can fool your body into thinking it has plenty of calcium, so you pee away all you calcium reserves, resulting in osteoporosis.

Phosphate is not in all sodas; it *is* however in the most popular ones, in massive quantities, such as cola. It’s also what gives a certain iced tea the “bite” that it advertises.
