Help, I’ve fallen and I can’t reach my event horizon.

They only SWITCH on, in the same sense that tornadoes switch on as the result of a collision between two weather fronts.
“These monster black holes evolve in a way that is strongly related to the amount of dark matter that surrounds them and that is intimately related to the probability of galaxies to merge,”
Or, in layman’s terms, collision results are unpredictable, but pretty!
Do black holes ever get full?
Since the Milky Way is reputed to have a black hole at it’s center, just which galaxy did it collide with, and when?

Don’t know but Stephen Hawking claims they do put out visible light known as Hawking Radiation.
Comes out the other side as primordial soup.
Can't account for missing energy in their calculations so someone invented "Dark Energy" and are now looking for that.
One fellow noticed some unusual movement of stars in his studies and has coined the term "Dark Flow".
Makes one wonder what dimension these fella's belong to.
More pseudo science making up explanations for things they have no concept of.

If dark matter falls into a black hole does it heat up and radiate?
But we must keep guessing and proving our guesses so we can prove there is no creator. When we finally prove a lucky guess, we again will learn how abysmally ignorant we really are.
