Depending on the situation, you should look up the history of the White Eagle Lodges in the metro area your family first arrived in the States.
Some of the Polish fraternal organizations in Greenpoint Brooklyn that sponsored immigrants, are still going strong today.
Late 40 and early 50’s had displaced persons put to the front of the list for the quotas from each country, that’s what has always been repeated to me, griping about the quota system in place.
