Soccer just seems to be something the kids play in school these days but walk away from it when they’re done with school.

There are no major league teams around the country like there are Baseball, Football, Hockey etc. I doubt many cities could afford to absorb the costs. They’ve been talking about a city based auto racing league for several years and that has gone nowhere despite its relatively low cost.

The MLS pretends to be a league. As a Brit ex-pat co-worker of mine says, MLS to European soccer is like Double A baseball is to MLB.

Well, I don’t watch soccer on TV because of those horns and the annoying announcers. And I’m a big sports fan.

My conservative son played soccer from first through ninth grades, and then he stuck with baseball. I loved watching youth soccer, even when the six year old kids ran the wrong way on the field. I also coached for a few years, and it was tremendous watching them develop confidence and skills. And yes, we kept score from the very beginning. The kids always know the score, anyway.

Enjoying youth soccer (in person) enabled me to appreciate youth basketball - the games have a lot in common. They have a pace and a pattern that can be very exciting. I’ve been to a couple of college and pro soccer games, and they’re enjoyable. I just won’t watch ‘em on TV.

My sport? Baseball. I love it. I also like football a lot, although I don’t know the rules as well. But seeing a well-executed play is a joy.
