I filed my census form and sent it back fast. Why is a census worker at my door telling me I did not file. How can I prove I filed so they leave me alone?
Sandy, I'm sure that your sister is a perfectly nice lady, and I have an acquaintance that is doing census work and she seems to be a great person.
Unfortunately, these perfectly nice ladies represent the government, asking a bunch of questions that are none of their business. I was perfectly pleasant to the young lady that came to my house, and I was cordial to the lady that subsequently called my home at dinner time. They both were told that two people live here, which BTW, is the same info that I placed on the paper census that I mailed back.
Your sister, my acquaintance, and the 2 ladies that have contacted me personally, are a waste of my tax money, but at least they are doing something in return for their pay. The amount of money that is being wasted for this census is shameful and I am not going to celebrate just because your sister is amongst the waste.
How can I prove I filed so they leave me alone?
Give him the photocopy of the form you sent in ... :-) ...
My only point was that people should separate the government institution from the people who are just trying to take care of their families.
Not all government employees are monsters.
The same thing happened to my daughter. Her neighbor banged on the door one morning insisting that she answer questions for the census. Evidently, this woman was a hire for the census and said that my daughter had not filed. However she HAD mailed in the form and told the neighbor. The neighbor insisted she had to give her info and my daughter refused, saying that she didn’t feel comfortable giving info especially since she already filed.
I think they are trying to overcount people to counteract the number of people leaving the state
same here. :o/
Mine also.
Sent it in on 1 April as required. Census worker has come 4 times leaving notices and 1 time hubby opened door to him. I said we sent it in, contact that OTHER well run government agency, USPS and ask them where it is as I refuse to fill it out again!
Thats why we never open the door or even acknowledge the bell or someone knocking we can see the people outside and if we dont know em, we keep quiet until they leave.

That used to be SOP at our home unless we were expecting a package or friends, but here in Albuquerque people started ringing the bell or knocking and then kicking your door in if you didn’t answer - even with an alarm system and signs posted saying such. APD suggested that people open the door or ask a question like ‘who’s there’ to let them know someone is indeed home. When they were getting responses from people they’d leave. So I started saying ‘just a minute’ or ‘who’s there’ and suddenly no one is there. Makes me glad we signed up not for your typical alarm system but for a company that has armed ex-PD driving around the city all day - average response time 10 minutes vs. hours for PD.
So you're saying: It's OK to work for a corrupt government if you're making money for your family?

Well, since this is L.A., perhaps we should consider responding in some way as well — lots of break-ins lately, more than in past years. thanks for the tip...........
You are quite welcome. Anything that keeps people safe is a good thing.
Our PD hasn’t solved the break-ins but has said they feel it is drug addicts that are happy for a quick in & out without having to confront home owners. And due to low priority placed on home alarm calls, the people breaking in know they have a few minutes to grab whatever is in plain sight and get out.
I sent in my census form and a census worker showed up at my door. I told her that I had already sent it in. Her response was that they didn’t get it. So I simply told her that I had 4 people living here. When she wrote that down, I informed her that she would not get anymore information out of me. She smiled and said “That’s fine. I won’t ask you any more questions. I get payed by the hour, not the amount of info I collect.” She was very polite and very nice.
We talked a bit about the stories spreading on the internet about crimes being committed by census workers and she did admit that she is a bit frightened to go door to door. She is also a realtor, but due to the housing market here, she has had to seek other employment.
I told her that I heard of a situation where a census worker asked one man about his neighbor, trying to get information out of the neighbor. She said that they were encouraged to do that.
She gave me her card for her realty business and we talked about her family. Actually, when she left, I knew more about her than she knew about me.
I would not put it past this administration to undercount areas that are Republican or to overcount areas that are Democrat with double stats throught home vists and forms submitted.
