Re #58
You need to grow up little boy.
Over 60 replies about “olive oil”. A little surprising, I must say.
Okay, how long are you going to buy Acme Vitamin C before you decide to conduct scientific tests on it?
And on EACH of the thousands of other products you use each month?
You are beginning to sound like a hippie.

Boy, that was long overdue. Thanks!
LOL! I’d have done it in a minute. Vigoda has a sense of humor, from what I understand. Either he’s heard it a million times- or he’d have thrown back his head for a good laugh.
If he took it badly, I’d say, “I always liked you; it was only business” and walked off.
I KNOW what is in my food because I have relationships with people and companies and international standards organizations that have nothing to do with the federal government.
Don't put up a straw man. I want my food to be what I bought. That is my role as a consumer, the standards role of national and international standards organizations, and NOT the role of the US Federal Government.

Re #63
Ditto that.
There are standards organizations out there that certify products. That aren't part of the federal government.

BTW, we will be shopping for gigantic medjool dates from San Diego county this summer. The way that happens is that we will ask a relative to hit any local store that has a bunch of them and have them buy several pounds and mail them to us.
They will be eaten in a day or two.
This will beat the commercial product to the WarshDC market by a month or more! Even the Arab stores around here can't get the product faster than that.
We've found that you can even get gigantic medjool dates on the roadsides between the coast and the Indian reservations (with casinos) that are pretty good and seem to have been harvested maybe a day or two earlier.
But for olives, no matter how many olives I would import from SD or Greece or Spain, that first press would NEVER be better than a pedestrian quality oil found at the local Safeway.
I’ve heard that Robert Duvall lives not far from where I am. If I run into him- I’ve thought about saying “By the way, I admire your pictures very much.”
Not everyone in the USA is going to culinary school.
You have a son. He is allergic to peanuts. How do you buy a product that you want to buy but be sure it does not have peanuts? Remember, there are no standards.
Multiple that times thousands for the many items you buy all year long, not just food ... but every item.
You can’t do it.
In all of history, Olive oil is the most adulterated product next to wine.
Thousands of years, people have been mixing in other stuff and labeling it what it is not.
I'm not talking about olive oil. I'm talking about the limited powers of the federal government.

What does the Commerce Clause mean to you?
I'd laugh, but it is like a religion. The more you point out the absurd the more the adherent believes it.
It’s not a personal attack. It’s a statement that you’re a little boy and need to grow up. Not everyone who disagrees with you is a “statists” So get out of your glass house before you throw stones.
Oh, and by the way, McDonalds Hamburger University is not a “culinary school”.

This is a legitimate function of the government. Like the bureau of weights and measures. A gallon is 128 fluid ounces. 87 octane has a specific meaning, and extra virgin olive oil means a defined set of criteria equivalent to 87 octane means. SAE 10/30 motor oil meets a certain standard. Gold is the same thing here too.
Want some salt to go with your foot? It might taste better when you put it in your mouth like that.
