KOKOMO, Ind. -- A 9-year-old Howard County girl critically injured by a pit bull over the weekend died at an Indianapolis hospital on Thursday, police said.
The attack happened in the 4600 block of East County Road 200 South on Saturday, said Howard County Sheriff Marty Talbert.
The girl, Savannah Gragg, underwent surgery at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, but died Thursday afternoon.
Police said that Savannah was opening a door at the home to let the dog outside when it jumped on her and knocked her to the floor, biting her on the neck and shaking her violently.
"The child suffered a lacerated trachea, which resulted in a lack of oxygen to the brain," Talbert said in a news release Thursday evening. "Doctors determined the child was brain dead shortly after 3:30 p.m. Thursday."
Family members told police that the dog had never shown aggression before.

Geeze joe, don’t you ever talk, just post pictures...just wondering cause your picture bucket must be overflowing. GG
Oh! I see you found your soul mate while I was typing.
Or they might just take someone else’s life when they get out...Oh well, people with your attitude don’t care.
You know me so well.....
Great analogy....
Only if it from their own pit bull or pit cross..
Somebody commented that they found a comment objectionable because it mentioned what should happen to a parents that owned pit bull (maybe you made the comment). Below the post - which I guess you did not see - was a picture of anti freeze. My comment was, all that stuff bothered you and you did not mention the anti freeze.
“Family members told police that the dog had never shown aggression before.”
a common theme regarding the owners of these vicious monsters.
That is a ROTFLMAO His lady packs, and I don't mean BB guns.
You are confused.
I was sarcastically referring to another poster who has bragged on these threads of creating poison gas clouds from bleach and ammonia, as well as setting out antifreeze meatballs to poison dogs.
He’s a real brave warrior, that one.
Oh, yes - I know. They’re really well-armed.
Pistols, a military rifle with bayonet, shotgun loaded with Flechette rounds, chlorine gas and anti-freeze meatballs.
That’s why he breaks a sweat whenever he walks his yorkie.
That’s just the way I feel about it,,,
O.T. :
There ain’t many pits left next door,,,
Don’t know if they have been moved or just died on the
chains like the others,,,
Only three left as I can tell...
:O) your sounding a little jealous...do you own a gun or are you anti 2nd amendment...
Hey, a yorkie is just as important to the family as any other breed.. My son and his wife have one, cute as a button and scares my lab when they bring her over...His wife you go after anything that went after her dog....just like counter-morters woman...
Y’All have a good night now.
Us workin’ folk gotta get some rest before tomorrow. Lotsa burgers to flip before we can come home and taunt our vicious dogs.
While we’re gone, y’all can say all kinds of stuff ‘bout how cruel we are, and maybe exchange some recipies for poison meatballs and such.
Have a good time! Nuttin but luv!
By the way, all my guns were lost in a terrible boating accident. Golly! Shucks!
.....but don’t come in the house unannounced.
(The dogs, you know ...Yup! that’s it! The dogs.)
also could be the reason you love pits so much, you have much to prove maybe....:O)
That means there is only 3 to go......LOL
Your clairvoyance is poorer than your grammar.
That’s saying a lot.
I went to your home page and now I know why you are crotchety, your almost as old as me. That's where I get my attitude from...at my age if you don't like what I say, tough cookies..
Your dog is cute, but didn't read your dissertation..:O)
