Despite it being a horrible call, I must say I'm very impressed with the way everyone handled the situation. It could have been made much worse.

Incidentally, Jim Leyland is an absolutely class act himself. The decision to have Gallaraga deliver the lineup to Joyce and then shake hands at home plate was absolutely perfect.

After watching the interviews with the umpire, Armando Galarraga and his teammates that were conducted immediately following the game I think they would be surprised, quite frankly, with some of the comments on this thread: FIRE the umpire ... Tears for himself ... Joyce is a dolt

Man, that's harsh, especially considering how everyone involved handled the huge mistake with class.

Jim Leyland is one of the finest men in baseball. He is really a throw back to old school managers. He doesn’t take any crap from anyone, but he loves the game and cares for his players as long as they are giving maximum effort.
