DETROIT (AP) -- Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers lost his bid for a perfect game Wednesday night with two outs in the ninth inning on a disputed call at first base. Replays appeared to show Cleveland hitter Jason Donald was out.
Tigers manager Jim Leyland immediately argued the call with first base umpire Jim Joyce, and was joined by several Detroit players who surrounded the ump after the Tigers beat the Indians 3-0.

Think of it this way. Tragedy for the pitcher, but something for us all to talk about the rest of our lives. I can remember plays I saw as a kid and I'm 63. That's part of the game.
He and the umpire will be part of the legends of the game and the answer to trivia questions 15-20 years from now. Hell, I look for a beer commercial and a joint speaking tour.

I was a fan of his in those days. Ump B.Froemming(?) missed those calls, period.

This is about a perfect game.

I’m sure we can dig up something W did with the Rangers that caused this to happen. Probably was advised by Rowe to vote against instant replay. If Bush caused Gore’s divorce, he certainly can be behind this.

Hey asshole, it’s a simple, clear-cut matter of right and wrong.

I replied directly to the comment and my reply was accurate. Of course, it’s about a perfect game.

There’s a huge difference between “tainted” homers like those hit by McGwire, Sosa, and Bonds and a hit that obviously never should have been. The equivalent would be if Bonds’ last few homers actually only went to the warning track but were somehow called homers.

FYI, ESPN says ump said “I blew the call” over and over in a post-game interview.

Im not a professional umpire so I cant speak to where he should have been standing but from his vantage point it certainly didn't look like the view in the video.
I don't believe there has ever been a call reversed by the Commissioners office, but if there has and a precedent established than this call will be overruled.

His angle was good. It's a tough call because you have the throw coming from the second baseman and you're looking for a 90 degree angle on the throw. The runner though will run you over, so the ump will slide down the line and a little to the outside to let the runner go by. This guys was very close to the line as I recall.
It's usually not a tough call even when close, because you have two feet competing at the same small spot. As they've been saying, the umps get this one right 999 out of 1,000.

That’s like saying the sky is blue. It was obvious to everybody else on the planet. Him saying he blew it means almost nothing. What he really needs to do is do his part and get the league to award Armando Galarraga the perfect game he and the Tigers earned.

Words fail me. There is no place for such idiocy in baseball. One out away from a perfect game, and you call him safe? Unfrigginbelievable. This umpire should be lined up against a wall and shot. And yes, I am series. (This is hugh!)

Not quite as bad as Denkinger, but pretty clearly out. Ought to be reversed.

I love my Tigers and I say “That’s baseball”. It sucks but Galarraga has bought himself a slot in baseball history and shown himself to be a classy guy.

And Im a Royals fan, and I know that game 6th call was bad. But at least the Cards had a chance to come back in game 7 and they blew it.Hey, don't water down my anger with facts. I've managed to stay mad for all these years.
I'm sad the Royals organization has fallen on hard times over the years. KC was my favorite AL team going back to their Athletic years and Alvin Dark, etc.

This is a disgrace. The commissioner needs to step in asap and overturn that call for the good of the game.
