In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
defalcation \dee-fal-KAY-shun\ noun
1 : the act or an instance of embezzling
2 : a failure to meet a promise or an expectation.
Example sentence:
"'She made off with the money, an act of defalcation that disqualifies her from receiving a bankruptcy discharge,' the judge ruled."
--Orlando Sentinel, March 21, 2004
Etymology:
"The tea table shall be set forth every morning with its customary bill of fare, and without any manner of defalcation." No reference to embezzlement there! This line, from a 1712 issue of Spectator magazine, is an example of the earliest, and now archaic, sense of "defalcation," which is simply defined as "curtailment." "Defalcation" is ultimately from the Latin word "falx," meaning "sickle" (a tool for cutting), and it has been a part of English since the 1400s. It was used early on of monetary cutbacks (as in "a defalcation in their wages"), and by the 1600s it was used of most any sort of financial reversal (as in "a defalcation of public revenues"). Not till the mid-1800s, however, did "defalcation" refer to breaches of trust that cause a financial loss, or, specifically, to embezzlement.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
they are not perfect, but i love them both : )
SG i just rediscovered photobucket, i can upload your oliver pic and post if you want me to>?
both Rush and Sean are harping today on theOne’s lunch with bjclinton.....I am pretty sure it was a command performance so O can complain about his boy carvelle’s rant. Neither of them are thinking along those lines. I can just imagine the arrogantOne’s condescending lecture now. LOL
THAT’s her name.........gees, I must be getting old!
Yes! more pics of our pets.....I love them.
Absolutely, if you don’t mind!
Maybe the last one of King Oliver the Timid, since it doesn’t have the big old collies in there with him.
Ollie and his chum Chum
THey look perfect to me. Cavalier King Charles?
yes. Lucius [the blenheim] and Chanel [the tricolor]. not perfect because they will still poop in the house if it’s really rainy outside, bc they don’t like getting wet....
and i swear the “nose” pic your kiddo took is on a mug somewhere with a ‘THE DOG’ tm on it!
Well done! Thank you! That’s Oliver, the Bichon Spaniel with his step-bros, Chumley and Hammish.
i don’t know if my comp is better or photobucket is better, but in the past i had BAD luck with uploading pix and this worked like a charm for me today.
I don’t know how you get them to sit still and not wind up as The Dog nose pics.
you do really need chum in the pic to give the size perspective, bc just looking at the pic of oliver, alone, he doesn’t look all that small, but when you see him with chumley you can get a better idea of his size.
Max has an 12-18 hr bladder. He doesn’t like to get wet either, but he’ll follow me off the porch if I walk out into the rain and then gets his bizness done ASAP.
xsfrosh took that pic of them, just impromptu, one afternoon bc she needed it for a school project and it is literally THE BEST pic of them ever taken since we have had them. i was floored. no red eye, no NOSE perspective etc.
we send them out via the open garage door and they will run out and back in, so it’s not ALWAYS when it rains, but they will have the occasional accident. and they prefer the oriental rugs, of course!
Haha - she’s cuter and has a better pedigree
