The Atlantic Tropical Storm Season officially begins June 1. This week, there is a low pressure system in the Atlantic with a 30% chance of developing into a tropical system.
The last week of May also provides the opportunity to review and complete your hurricane safety preparations and evacuation plans for 2010.

Finally, the Safir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale was updated in January of this year. The summary table provides more detailed examples of wind damage for quality of building construction.
I like this old hurricane legend this year.
This one drives me crazy. Have thought about just paying to move the due date one way or the other away from the first day of hurricane season. LOL
My friend in Key West caught 40 dolphin Thursday and one of the tv types from out of town asked him "if he was going to eat those fish" these people do not have a clue.
Does anyone else have any info on past experiences with the loop current feeding the Stream? The only thing I recall is frequent red tides in the winter that get into the loop current, come around the Tortugas get into the stream and usually break up.
They are bad in the area of the Tortugas but rapidly dissipate.
I wonder if anyone knows if the same would be true of crude?

I know a guy named Alex. He’s a real pain in the ass. Hopefull his storm does not follow suit.
Great stuff thanks, seemingly difficult to predict which is nothing new.
Had to lock in homeowner’s insurance a full week before closing on the house—August 31—because a storm was brewing in the Atlantic. Fortunately, I was watching the weather, and knew to call the insurance agent. Lesson learning—will never plan to close on a house during the height of hurricane season again.
Ahhhh...the sweet sound of generators and chain saws...
Thanks for the ping, NN! Better go stack up on pop tarts and tuna fish! (and chocolate, lots of chocolate.....just in case!) :)
I bought houses a couple of times in August, but that was before the fire/windstorm policy separation and not as problematic.
Yeah thanks,
We have a similar scenario with the Gulfstream, it can be right on top of the reef or 20 miles out.
Recently discovered dark chocolate peanut M&Ms. Wicked good!
Yes, and M&Ms hold up better in a 90 degree house.....lol
Thread bump.
Thanks, NN. I’ll be lurking, as usual.
Up here in Tennessee we had a huricane preview starting on May 1. We had 14+ inches of rain in 2 days, and flooding beyond belief. We will be years getting over all this. I had a friend visiting and she said this was just like several hurricanes she went through.
I hope you have a very peaceful storm season..... disappointingly so!
I was in Louisville during Derby weekend. The stories from folks driving home Sunday through TN were scary!
Check out this you tube video. It was done by a friend of ours, and has many photos from our neighborhood.

Well, as a Lisa myself since ‘66, we are never named storms, so that’s one off the list.
