Cyclist is suing Miami-Dade County over accident Most people know that being a cyclist in Miami isn't the healthiest choice you can make.
But now there is video proof. A Youtube video has surfaced which allegedly shows an incident in January where a Miami-Dade transit bus mows down a cyclist on Biscayne Boulevard. The footage comes from the on board camera on the bus.
Watch the video here.
Cyclist Pier Raccuglia is suing the county over the accident, claiming the bus driver tried to run him off the road. He suffered a broken foot in the accident. "It was pain like you've never felt," Raccuglia told the New Times. "What pissed me off -- pardon my French -- is that the driver didn't get out of the bus to help me. And she never apologized." In the video, the unnamed bus driver sounds less than concerned for the cyclist's well-being after she hits him.
"He came into this bus. I didn't hit him. He did that sh-- on purpose," the driver is overheard telling concerned passengers on the bus. "He was looking for an accident. He is OK. I'm not nervous and I'm not scared."
Earlier in the video, the bus driver honks at the cyclist after the both make a left turn. They travel in the same direction for a few blocks before the bus sends Raccuglia into the gutter.
No flames from me!
They might be lethal to your bank account.
It's much safer to ride on the sidewalks in the city and take one's chances against the pedestrians...
It's not much safer for the pedestrians though. Cycles vs. buses and cars-the cyclist loses. Cycles vs. pedestrians-the pedestrian loses. By the way, as a pedestrian, I came within inches of being hit by an a*****e on a bike who, like you, ran a red light thinking it was "safe" for him. I could have ended up in the morgue like the guy in the linked article.
Be careful out there. Don’t be wALKING AND TEXTING/TALKING.
THERE ARE CARS THAT RUN RED LIGHTS TOO.
bttt
People who run lights are idiots, regardless of what they ride or drive, and regardless of how they justify that action in their own minds.
I generally don't go to places where I have to pay to park (and I drive 99.999% of time) - It's Un-American to pay to park.
It's only if I have to go downtown for jury duty or something that I would ride my bike in an urban area.
I have no interest in competing with road vehicles for road space downtown. If the sidewalks are excessively crowded, I'll walk my bike. Otherwise I'll go at a safe and reasonable speed. Be aware of your surroundings.
I’m homeless.
“Im usually like the rider in the video, going the same speed as the traffic.”
I think the problem is he *wasn’t* going the same speed as the traffic or the bus wouldn’t have caught up to him.
I could never ride a bike in the city or heavy traffic. Even in my SUV I look upon buses as large beasts with bad eyesight and small brains.
Maybe if you feed them and petted them, they’d be nicer.
Sorry to break your hearts but I encounter a$$holes on bicycles on a regular basis. They have wheels on the ground and therefore think they too can ride in the middle of the street. No manners what so ever.
The law states I must yeild to them. How about these knuckleheads abide by the same rule and yeild to motorized drivers.
What I don’t like is that laws don’t apply to cyclists or motorcyclists.
About 18 years ago I took my 15 year old nephew, a mountain biking addict on a bike ride to downtown Seattle. Once we got there we cruised around Lake union, through the Pike place market, Capitol hill, the heart of downtown and the Pioneer square area.
As we stopped for a light on 4th avenue to take a left onto Dearborn, and head back across the lake he said to me, “When we first got into this traffic I thought ‘Man this sucks.’, but after we did it for a while it was a blast!”
I agree. I love riding in traffic. It is exhilarating.
Anything like performing commando?
