The anatomical differences between Neanderthals and Cro-Magnon or modern man are very striking. If you were to compare them side by side, you could not help but notice the differences. Not only are they anatomically different, but they are physiologically different, for instance at least 80% of Neanderthal diet was meat, while only about 16% of modern man's diet is meat. The skeletal structure is different, not to mention the size of Neantherthal’s brain is larger than modern man's brain. Are these similar genes junk-DNA or do they actually produce protein? If an offspring from inbreeding with a modern man and a Neanderthal did occur, would not natural selection “weed out” such progeny?
