I looked at the history and saw why I wasn’t familiar with it. I can’t remember the name of the place I went to in the 1990s (a block or two over from Newbury St if I recall).
And then there was Charlie’s next to the Rat in Kenmore Sq.
I only ate there once or twice and one of those nights was Thanksgiving when nothing else was open.
Was it Joe’s?
I never knew the Scolley Sq. joint, but I knew the Summer St. one.
Though the article does not say, I'm almost POSITIVE J&N had steamed hamburgers.
IMO, Boston ALWAYS had good eatin' joints ... dives, if you will ... that served a big plate of whatever for cheap bucks.
Sometimes you stood up to eat, sometimes it was a sawdust floor ... but the food was hot, good and plentiful.
The Boston I remember was a beautiful place to grow up in.
