It cracks me up that people think the earth is some static, fragile thing. Human history is so ridiculously brief compared to geologic time we somehow tend to think we're important. In the great scheme of things we're not. There is massive public ignorance of geologic processes that are well understood by science. That ignorance leads to a whole lot of foolish and short-sighted human behavior.
