I’m very fond of my dogs, but I wouldn’t lay my life down for them.

I don't know if I'd die for one of my dogs but I'd sure kill anyone who tried to harm either one.

I love one of my dogs, the American Mastiff. The other two I like a lot. I bought the mastiff for my husband for his birthday 6 years ago, it was the dog he had wanted all his life, since he was 10 yo and first knew one in his neighborhood. He often said that dog was the best birthday gift he had ever been given.

When my husband died three years ago, the dog was at his side the entire time. I don’t think I’ll ever forget the mastiff’s devotion, and every day I hug the dog, and thank God he’s mine. But — he is a dog. I own him, now. I’m human, he’s not.

I was never the alpha in our house, my husband was; however, I freely order the dog around and as expected, he obeys. That would never work with a real man. ;-D
