It was a hit song in 1974. It was recorded by Byron MacGregor. The inspiration for the song was a broadcast commentary by the Canadian newsman Gordon Sinclair.

I haven’t heard that song in years, but, as I recall, the Canadians were thanking the Americans for their response to natural disasters and such around the world.
