There are plenty of other organizations that we can give to that will actually help people. Samaritan's Purse, Joyce Meyer Ministries, Life Today, The Salvation Army--too many to name.
I'd give to any one of them before sending money to Idol or the government.
Dont forget the Wounded Warriors Foundation :-)
Heck, just donate to your church. At least then you know it is going to help people in your area, too.

So they call this ‘Idol Gives Back’ but it looks pretty much like a glorified telethon. Does the show match the donations or is it all BS? So maybe tonight’s show should be called ‘Viewers Give Back’?
They have to pick on blue states like Mississippi, don’t they? They could just as easily go to Watts or the Bronx to roll out all the ‘victims’. But NOOOOOOOOO!...
