Hand gun advice, please

Posted on 03/24/2010 6:44:03 PM PDT by 1rudeboy

I plan on more time at the range this summer. I'd prefer to do so with reduced ammunition costs (I'm a large caliber guy). I know nothing of any caliber smaller than .40cal. I assume that something of the .38 types, or a .357mag might be cheaper, yes?

So here's the deal, here are my required specs:

semi-automatic
9mm, .38, 8mm, .32, .357mag (or something I don't know about)
magazine capacity not important
concealed-carry suitability not important (I live in Illinois)

I just want to have some fun burning-through a lot of ammo. Are there some smaller calibers I should consider? I don't want to plink with a .22--I'm not an interior designer.

Get a glock, or a Springfield Armory XD or the Ruger SR-9.

I've heard good things about the Taurus 24/7 too. The XD rocks!

If I got the taurus, it would be in 45..because that was what it was originally designed for.

Revolvers are already a thing of the past. You can tell by the way revolver ammo prices are getting insane. I hate to admit it myself cuz I really like revolvers. I have two smiths. ONe in 22rimfire and one in 357mag. Both K frame.

. . . in fact, from your obvious knowledge base, it would seem a good place for you to start.

THAT explains why folks drink American beer! I had been wondering.

Starting with a .22 is the easiest and fastest way to learn.

I excuse myself from this thread without further comment. :)

Aw . . . stick around.

"Hey bartender, what do you have on tap? I want to get drunk."
"Are you familiar with our full line of imported lagers?"
"No."
"In that case, I recommend Bud Light. In a Dixie cup."

My guess is that it’s an implication that, because I don’t know the difference between a Paint and a Pinto, I can’t ride a horse (or I should stick to ponies).
